Three days after the Mumbai branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) issued an FIR against 20 policemen from Gujarat, in connection with the alleged fake encounter killing of Mumbra-based Ishrat Jahan, her family has expressed that not just the alleged killers but even in the main
conspirators in the encounter case should be investigated.

The family, however, is pleased that the CBI has registered a case against those involved in the encounter.

On Monday, Ishrat’s mother Shamima Kausar, accompanied by relatives and Rauf Lala, president of My Mumbra Foundation, visited the CBI office in Navi Mumbai, seeking a copy of the FIR registered by the CBI.

Speaking to the media during the visit, Kausar said: “An inquiry should be ordered to find out the person who gave the order to kill my daughter,” she added.

Lala said that while those who committed the murder had been mentioned in the FIR, they were not acting independently. “We are pleased with the FIR, but these are people who followed an order given by someone,” he said. “The person who ordered the killing should be unmasked.”

Lala also said that they met the additional superintendent at the CBI office.

“We were told that we cannot get a copy of the FIR as we are not complainants in the case — Special Investigation Team chief RR Verma is. The CBI has submitted a copy in the Ahmedabad court. We have asked our lawyer to get it from there and send it to us,” said Lala.

F1 needs America to complete global jigsaw

If all goes to plan, this will be a big week for Formula 1 as it returns to the United States for the first time in five years. F1 has failed to break into the US market in the course of the last 30 years, having blown the foundations that were built at Watkins Glen and Long Beach in the 1970s.
