BJP may not back no-trust vote against govt

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Tuesday indicated that it would be more comfortable pinning down the government in Parliament over its decision to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail sector than voting against it in a no-trust motion.
"The NDA will consult
all political parties and explore a no-confidence motion against the government," said BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad in Delhi this evening after a meeting of the alliance. "The NDA will move a resolution under voting provision urging the government to withdraw FDI in retail," he said. "The NDA believes this government has failed on all fronts and time has come for it to go," he said while reading from a press statement.
Prasad announced the NDA's strategy for the upcoming winter session of Parliament after leaders of NDA parties--the BJP, Janata Dal-United, Shiv Sena and Shiromani Akali Dal--met at the residence of BJP leader L K Advani.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has been pressing for a no confidence motion against the government and on Tuesday said her party would support a the CPI-M-led Left parties, who are her rivals in West Bengal, if they move such a motion in the Lok Sabha.
"This is a question of interest of the country. The CPI-M has said it won't support the (no-confidence) motion. I urge them to introduce the motion themselves," said Banerjee, also the West Bengal chief minister.
"I am willing to go to Alimuddin Street (CPI-M headquarters) and talk to (Left Front chairman) Biman Bose on the issue," said Banerjee.
