K.Raikkonen
Kimi Raikkonen returned to Formula 1 in 2012 with Lotus after spending two years away from the sport trying his hand at rallying and NASCAR. The Finn had left the sport after the 2009 season taking with him the badge of a world champion which he claimed in 2007 with Ferrari. Despite spending his last two seasons in F1 with the Italian team without adequate results, Raikkonen's talent has never been in doubt. He made his F1 debut in 2001 with Sauber after competing in only 23 races in junior categories, of which he won ten. He immediately made an impact in his maiden F1 race by scoring a point. McLaren recognised his flair and signed him for the following year, to replace compatriot Mika Hakkinen, where he finished sixth in the championship. In 2003, he claimed his first win in F1 and although he didn't add another one to his tally that year, he managed to take the title fight to the last race finishing runner-up behind Michael Schumacer. 2004 was a lacklustre season as McLaren failed to produce a competitive car but in 2005, he finished second in the standings again, this time behind Fernando Alonso. In 2006, McLaren disappointed again with Raikkonen having then signed by Ferrari for 2007. The partnership worked immediately as the Finn grabbed the championship by one point trumping the drivers of his old team. The final two years with Ferrari did not provide the desired results with the F1 fraternity questioning the Finnish driver's motivation. But after a two year sabbatical, Raikkonen is back to prove his detractors that he has really missed the racing.

F1 Pundit
The 'bonkers' business logic of Formula 1 teams

The primary goals of any normal business are to be successful in its field; to add value to the company; and to make a profit. Other strategic goals include building a brand, becoming the market leader or expanding the business into new areas. Joe Saward writes.

F1 needs America to complete global jigsaw

If all goes to plan, this will be a big week for Formula 1 as it returns to the United States for the first time in five years. F1 has failed to break into the US market in the course of the last 30 years, having blown the foundations that were built at Watkins Glen and Long Beach in the 1970s.
