A controversy has erupted in Oriisa over an IPS officer not being presented the Police Medal on Independence Day in Bhubaneswar. A senior Orissa police official on Sunday clarified that he will receive the award at a ceremony in Delhi.

Vinaytosh Mishra, a 1983 batch officer posted at Bokaro in Jharkhand as DIG, CISF, had lodged a complaint over “denial” of the medal.

The Orissa official said it was decided that the medal would be sent to CISF authority. “The CISF has its own medal giving ceremony, so we are requesting DG of CISF to award the medal to him,” the official said.

"There was some confusion as to whether the award will be given here or by the CISF because he has joined that force recently,” a police official said.

Mishra said his name, recommended by the state government to the President, was in the list of eight awardees even on August 14.
