grim from the start, in contrast with the mood in the stands where people were waiting to cut loose with drummer Sivamani. And there were others in the stands sporting the blue turbans of the Rajasthan Royals.
Kimberley had hosted matches of the 2003 World Cup but never did they come across such a cricket spectacle.
For those interested in stuff other than drums and fancy shirts, there was enough on offer in the form of Matthew Hayden versus Shane Warne. This might have happened in Victoria-Queensland games but for the less privileged, the two were enacting it once more.
The target for Hayden’s team was not steep and the Royals’ attack did not warrant especial care either. By some stroke of luck, it boiled down to a duel between two retired giants. Hayden waited for a while, played back down the pitch and in a flash of pure brilliance stepped out to hit Warne straight out of the ground. Hayden didn't last the distance but did enough to best Warne on the day even as S Badrinath applied the finishing touches to the win. Marius could go home reminding his son that he had seen something very few have.
