Bowlers dominated a rain-marred Group ‘B’ encounter as MRF beat BPCL by 12 runs in the VJD method here on Tuesday.
The MRF pace trio of Prashant Chandran, Vikram Dahiya and PK Dharma splintered the BPCL top-order, sharing six wickets in 28.3 overs. Chasing a revised target of 185 in 46 overs, BPCL were 120 for 6 when rain stopped play for the second time. They fell short by 12 runs needing 132 in 28.3 overs.
Chandran (2 for 22) and Dahiya (3 for 22) were the wreckers in chief, as the former removed Abhishek Nayar just four balls into the BPCL innings. The Mumbai all-rounder announced his arrival with a cracking straight drive for four, but he sliced the very next delivery onto his stumps.
Dahiya complemented his new ball partner and picked up Uday Kaul's wicket leaving BPCL reeling at 30 for 2 in six overs. The Punjab wicketkeeper batsman misdirected an attempted steer through gully to Thalaivan Sargunam at first slip.
Tamil Nadu seamer PK Dharma, who joined the attack in the ninth over, removed Onkar Khanvilkar for 21 forcing an edge to keeper A Arif. And the lone Indian IPL centurion Manish Pandey's three-minute survival earned him just one run before perishing at mid-off off Chandran.
Though Sairaj Bahutule (5 not out) and Anup Revendkar (35 not out) tried a revival of sorts, rain came down a second time, ending the game. Earlier MRF managed 191 thanks to 53 from Gnaneshwara Rao.
