The Guinness World Book Records has called him The Most Successful Composer and Recording Artist of All Time. He has written forty three songs that have sold over one million copies each. He has belonged to one of the greatest rock band in the history of music. And he has given us hope in Hey Jude, both written and sung by him.
We are talking about the legendary Sir Paul McCartney and today is his 70th birthday, and the entire world has come together to wish him. Primarily known as the bassist-singer-songwriter for the Beatles, McCartney was born on 18 June, 1942 in Liverpool, England.
Hailing from a family interested in music, McCartney played as a Beatle from 1960 to 1970 and gave more than 1,400 live performances internationally. Along with John Lennon, he wrote blockbuster hits like I Want to Hold Your Hand (1963), Can't Buy Me Love (1964) and We Can Work It Out (1965). He composed classics like Yesterday in 1965 which used classical music and was used for the occasion of the Beatles being appointed as the Members of the Order of the British Empire.
McCartney was the primary writer of five US number one singles: Hello, Goodbye(1967), Hey Jude (1968)- the band's most successful single ever, Get Back (1969), Let It Be and The Long and Winding Road (1970). These are songs that are favourites of people even today, and will remain immortal till the end of time.
Married three times with five children, McCartney played for the band Wings after the Beatles disbanded and went on to record solo LP records. Infamous for his rocky relationship with the fellow Beatle John Lennon and estranged marriages, McCartney has been a favourite among the media and paparazzi.
He has given us songs to which we dance, we cry, we laugh and we sing to. His music is timeless and here is wishing him more music and many more birthdays ahead.
