The Directorate of Census Operations, Madhya Pradesh on Friday launched ‘Censusinfo’ - a compact disc (CD) of a data package (software module) on Census of 2011 that would be helpful in generating specific data needed by the users including government officials, NGOs and any other stakeholders.
Also the interactive software module has the provision of combining Census data with available non-Census data and generated necessary information. Along with comparative data, the package would also generate useful table chart, pi-chart and maps related to the data. The CD of the software module was launched on the first day of a data dissemination workshop organised by the Census directorate on Friday. The software module is has been developed by UNICEF with the help of Devinfo group and also could be viewed and downloaded from www.censusindia.gov.in in the gallery section and also at www.devinfo.org/indiacensus2011.
“Anyone interested in using the package could obtain the CD from our office. We hope it would be useful in drawing several developmental and welfare plans,” director of census operations, Sachin Sinha told HT.
Members of civil society, NGOs and officers of various departments are participating in the workshop. The main topic of discussion was optimum use of census data for development of MP by analysing it comparatively.
In the inaugural session, Secretary Rural Development Rajesh Rajora said that the census data, since it is collected after a gap of ten years, should be effectively used for the next ten years. A general analysis of population figures should also be undertaken during review of progress of different schemes. Population-related facts and figures are very necessary for knowing reality of a number of state and union government schemes like housing, drinking water, electrification, health and education. Former IAS officer and advisor to World Health Programme Waseem Akhtar said that population data needs to be provided at the district-level also since each district has its own social and geographical specialities.
