In October a girl, daughter of a RPF constable, was missing from her residence near Mansarovar Complex in the state capital and was later found murdered in a jungle. A motor mechanic living in the neighbourhood was found involved in the crime.
In the same month, a minor girl who was allegedly gang raped near Gwalior, ended her life by setting herself afire. The incident came close on the heels of a woman immolating herself in Raisen district after she was raped.
In January this year, a minor girl studying in Class 10 in Khargone district was allegedly raped. The offenders set the 15-year-old girl afire when she threatened to inform the police. She later died. The accused was her neighbour.
About two years back in Damoh, a 17-year-old girl was raped by an engineering student. Later, the accused, his father and uncles set her afire resulting in her death.
In 2010, a tribal woman who was teacher in a missionary school in Jhabua was kidnapped, held captive for a couple of days and raped repeatedly in Barwani district. The accused later set her afire and dropped her in a badly burnt condition at a roadside. She had gone to her grandmother’s place in the district when the incident took place.
The worst part of the crime episode exposing the insensitivity of the police was that the father of the victim had to grease the palms of the police personnel to get FIR lodged.
