Back from London, Tendulkar hits the nets

The Mumbai Indians supporters heaved a sigh of relief on Saturday as their captain, Sachin Tendulkar, allayed fears he could miss the Indian Premier League by joining the preparatory camp on the final day at the Wankhede Stadium.

It was Tendulkar’s first training session after his visit to London to consult a specialist for his troublesome right big toe.

Even though the batsman was feeling better, his supporters were anxious to know the doctor’s opinion on his injury. That he joined practice immediately on return is an assurance to the MI camp that the fitness issue is cleared, at least for now.

Knocking around
Tendulkar hit the nets and batted for half-an-hour before returning to the dressing room. Pacers RP Singh, Munaf Patel, Dhawal Kulkarni and Amitoze Singh along with spinners Pragyan Ojha and Yuzvendra Chahal bowled to him.

Later, the Little Master also opened the batting with Davy Jacobs in the practice match. However, he could not last long as he was caught off Pragyan Ojha’s bowling at square-leg while trying to scoop.

It was also learnt that Tendulkar would fly with the team to Chennai on Sunday for the opening ceremony on April 3 and will play the IPL opener against  defending champions Chennai Super Kings the next day.
