In his final arguments before additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna in the December 16 gang-rape case, AP Singh, counsel of accused Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur, said the case was “manipulated” and evidence “planted” against his clients.
However, the proceedings were disrupted
after defence counsel Singh collapsed in the middle of an argument due to ill health. The proceedings were adjourned for Saturday.
The two accused on Friday had alleged that the investigation as well as conduct of the authorities had not been impartial due to “political pressure”.
“Investigation was manipulated. Evidence was planted. The conduct of the SDM (who recorded the victim’s first statement) and the metropolitan magistrate (who conducted pre-trial proceedings) was also affected due to manipulation,” Singh said during his brief arguments. The counsel alleged the authorities were not allowed to be impartial “due to political pressure” on them.
