Thursday’s blasts  have got mired in the age-old controversy of jurisdiction that has dogged Indian policing.

Based on an eyewitness Gadagolla Anand’s statement, an FIR on the blast outside Konark theatre has been registered at Saroornagar police station, which is under the jurisdiction of the Cyberabad police commissionerate.

The second FIR for the explosion near the bus stop close to Venkatadri theatre — about 100 metres from Konark —  has been registered at the Malkapet police station under the Hyderabad police commissionerate.

Acknowledging the jurisdictional issues, Andhra Pradesh CM Kiran Kumar Reddy said, “Probe into the blasts will be conducted by both central and state agencies. The NIA would lead the blasts probe from the Centre. The state police will chalk out a special investigating team to probe the blasts.”

On Friday morning, a DCP with the Hyderabad police commissioner’s office, said, requesting anonymity, “There is a jurisdictional issue with the cases being registered in different commissionerates.”

The situation got complex with the presence of central agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the National Security Guard, Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Hyderabad, and police teams from others states rummaging through the blast site for possible evidence.
