Four students tested positive for swine flu in Spring-dales School, Pusa Road in Delhi and The Shri Ram School, Ara-valli in Gurgaon on Wednesday.
A 22-year-old male, whose case was reported on Tuesday, is a final year electrical engineering student at IIT-Delhi, health officials
confirmed.
“A 13-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl from Springdales, tested positive,” said Delhi health minister Kiran Walia.
Two six and seven year olds have been confirmed with H1N1 in Gurgaon. “Two students are under observation. If their tests are positive, we’ll take precautionary measures,” said Mark Parkinson, director, The Shri Ram School.
Springdales also had no information of the fresh cases. “Schools were closed today, so parents may not have reported back the confirmed status,” said a teacher at Springdales.
“Swine flu is still a disease of the elite, so the education ministry has not asked Delhi
government and MCD schools to take special precautions,” Walia said.
Five new cases were reported in Delhi on Wednesday, taking the Capital’s tally to 168. Gurgaon had three cases, taking the toll up to 22.
Apart from the two students, two 19-year-old girls also tested positive. The fifth case was of a 19-year-old girl who arrived in Delhi from Singapore.
The third Gurgaon case was of a woman who returned from Bangkok.
India has 598 cases of swine flu, with one death. Of them, 482 have recovered and been discharged.
