The posh South Delhi is all set to have better parking spaces as the municipal corporation on Thursday issued tenders for 39 parking sites under its jurisdiction.
The new sites will follow the new parking policy.
The civic body will draw an additional annual revenue of around Rs. 13.68 crore from the two newly constructed underground parking lots in Munirka and Hauz Khas.
Under the new policy, which is being implemented for the first time, parking contractors will have to follow various guidelines, violations of which will result in hefty fines and even cancellation of their licence.
“Uniforms for parking attendants, a proper complaint register and issuance of parking slip have been stressed upon in the policy. Overcharging, non-issue of handheld device for issuing parking slips, no notice boards and other violations will be severely dealt with,” said a South civic body official.
According to sources in the corporation, New Friends Colony went for the highest bid, which fetched the civic body a monthly licence fee of Rs. 11.57 lakh.
This was followed by the Vasant Vihar PVR site, which went for Rs. 11.40 lakh.
“The civic body had earlier received a revenue of only Rs. 52 lakh per month from these sites which has now touched Rs. l.14 crore, a jump of over 120%,” the source said adding that the South Delhi Municipal Corporation is the only corporation to register such a steep jump in revenues.
The South corporation had surpassed its revenue target and had collected over Rs. 48 crore against a target of Rs. 44 crore and was the only corporation to achieve its target in remunerative project cell last year.
