Contributing their bit to make International Women's Day more meaningful, operators of the pink auto service - meant for women commuters of the city - offered 20% discount on auto tariff on Friday.
Pleasantly surprised at the special sops being doled out to women, Neha Kapoor
(64), a resident of Palam Vihar, said, "I pay Rs. 100 everyday but today I was given a discount on the tariff. The driver was at his best behaviour too. He offered me water and gifted me a flower when I boarded the auto."
Meanwhile, city corporates also undertook safety initiatives for women employees on Women's Day. The measures included workshops on safety tips, self-defence training programmes, distribution of pepper sprays, besides other events.
Hughes Systique (HSC) also celebrated International Women's Day by launching a women safety application "StreetSafe" developed by an all women team of the company.
The event 'The Capable Me 2013' was also organised on the occasion. A demonstration was also shown to industry dignitaries who were present during the event.
Dr Lal Path Labs, a leading diagnostics firm, also greeted its women staff with flowers and gifts.
Renowned lawyer and honorary general secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Pareena Swarup, was the chief guest.
The women employees were also given pepper sprays.
Pressure group Gurgaon First and Artemis Hospital felicitated 14 Gurgaon women who have contributed to the city in diffrent fields.
