Eight senior Trinamool Congress MPs and several MLAs have requested party chief Mamata Banerjee to sack the MPs who have been accused by Saradha chief Sudipta Sen of using arm-twisting tactics to fleece crores of rupees from him.
In his 18-page letter to the CBI, Sen categorically
mentioned how two of the party’s present MPs, Kunal Ghosh and Srinjoy Bose, blackmailed and swindled him of money.
The chief minister, however, said she would wait for the commission probe report before taking action against the leaders who have been named by the Ponzi scheme scamster.
The MPs made the request to the Trinamool chief through a letter, a copy of which was also sent to the party’s all-India general secretary, Mukul Roy.
“It’s not correct to target a journalist of a news channel. Why single him out? It’s the Centre which gives the licence to run a news channel or a newspaper. Once the probe report’s out, the guilty will be punished,” Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday evening.
“Mamata Banerjee has made it clear that an investigation’s currently on and the guilty will not be spared,” Mukul Roy said.
“In my opinion, the MPs whose names have figured in Sen’s list should resign. But this decision will be taken by the party chief,” Sougata Roy, Lok Sabha MP, said
“The scam has hit the villages. Some of our leaders are involved. Do you think people will vote for us in the panchayat polls until the money is returned to the people?” a Lok Sabha MP asked.
Meanwhile, several Trinamool MLAs have appealed to Mamata to suspend the ‘tainted’ MPs until the probe is over.
