The Panchkula police said on Sunday that the death of a 15-year-old girl, whose body was found hanging from a tree in Morni on July 24, was actually a case of honour killing.
The victim, Anju, a resident of Karnal, had come to stay with her uncle at Rajiv Colony in Sector 17,
Panchkula. A student of Class 10, she reportedly had an affair with a boy of her village.
Upset over Anju's affair, her uncle Jasmer Singh killed her and hanged her body from a tree in the Morni forests, said Chandimandir police station SHO Satish Kumar, adding that the police were on the lookout for Jasmer.
The highly decomposed body, almost reduced to a skeleton, was noticed by some workers of the forest department on July 24. The police examined the body and came to the conclusion that it was at least three months old. The skeleton was sent to the forensic laboratory in Madhuban, Karnal, for tests. The police later succeeded in identifying the body on the basis of the girl's clothes and bangles, and interrogated the victim's family members.
