The Wadali trio—brothers Ustad Pyare Lal Wadali, Ustad Puran Chand Wadali and Lakhwinder Wadali—are back with their track Eid Ho Gai in Lakhwinder’s latest album, Ishqe Daa Jaam, which was released at Score, Sector 8, on Friday.
Throwing light on his latest album, which comprises
eight tracks, the second-generation Wadali says, “Three of us have sung just one track together for the album. The remaining seven have been sung by me.”
“While recording this album, the biggest challenge for me was to sing the track Sohni. It’s the katha (story) of Sohni Mahiwal, where she is talking to the matka on which she had to float to meet Mahiwal. The track was sung by Wadali brothers 25 years ago, so there was a lot of pressure. But when my father said to me, ‘I am glad you have not spoiled our composition’, I was relieved,” he shares.
About adding a new element to the album, Lakhwinder says, “Jitender Jeetu (music composer) has experimented with rock—Sufi rock to be preprecise—which will prove to be a delight for listeners.
