With 60 colonies here declared illegal, the municipal council has decided not to pass the construction plans, in these areas, in future. Executive engineer S K Aggarwal revealed this here on Monday.

"On the directions of local bodies department, even the process of installing warning boards have been started in these colonies and we are also going to publish about all these illegal colonies for public interest," he said.

Most of these colonies have been situated in the outskirts of the city along with almost every approaching road, he added.

A team headed by deputy director, local bodies Pritam Singh also inspected the site before finalising the lists.

The team also took the measurement of works initiated by the municipal council before calling the tenders. This matter came to a fore month back, after the media had highlighted the issue. A group of contractors had leveled allegation after they were denied the tender form .

The contractors alleged that at nearly five different places works were started before calling the tenders, and for all others, tenders were allotted to selected contractors setting aside all the rules and regulations. After media ire, the record was seized by local bodies department and an enquiry was instituted.

"We have provided all the details sought by deputy director local bodies and a special team headed by chief engineer local bodies. The action against the defaulters would be taken as proposed in the enquiry report," Aggarwal said.
