Even 11 days after the murder of assistant sub-inspector Gurdev Singh on a national highway, two of the four key accused Palwinder Singh alias Pinda and Rajinder Singh alias Mintoo are still at large.
“Photographs of the accused have been provided to all patrolling parties to nab the absconding accused,” SP (Phagwara), HPS Khakh said.
Several police parties have been dispatched to different directions and outside, including New Delhi to raid the possible hide outs of the accused, Khakh said.
He claimed that vital clues on the whereabouts of the accused had been collected on the interrogation of the arrested accused, NRI Tarwinder Singh and Pushpinder Singh.
On a specific query on whether the Verna car used in the crime had been recovered, Khakh said that it had not been recovered and said that intensive questioning of the family members of the absconding accused had been done.
“Both the accused are professional criminals and have their passports with them,” Khakh said, adding that all international airports had been sounded to prevent their escape.
"One of the accused, Noni, has injuries on his leg, received during a scuffle with the ASI. We are also keeping a watch on hospitals across the state.”
When contacted, SSP Yurinder Singh Hayer said: "We are investigating the case in threadbare and scientific manner. The absconding accused will be behind the bars soon.”
On allegations that some family members of the accused had been illegally detained, Hayer said that the claims were false, but said that some relatives were questioned, but were alllowed to leave.
"We are interrogating the arrested accused Noni. He has maintained that he was never contacted by the absconded accused.”
