Two MA English students at the local DAV College ended their lives together by jumping before a train at the Nagra railway crossing, near the college. The deceased have been identified as Raghav Sharma (24), a resident of Ferozepur and Manjot Kaur (23), a resident of Jalandhar.
Both were classmates and reportedly hugged each other before jumping in front of a train coming from the Kapurthala side, eyewitnesses report.
"The man's body was thrown away from the track by the train but the woman's body was dragged by the train till the time it stopped. The possibility of an affair between them cannot be ruled out as both were students of MA English part-I," said SHO GRP GS Randhawa.
"The victims were identified from their belongings and identity cards. The man stayed in the college hostel and the girl was a local resident. She was the only daughter of her parents and her father dropped her in the college by car on Friday, as it was raining," he added.
However, both sets of parents denied any knowledge of an affair between the deceased. The police have registered a case of suicide and handed over the bodies to parents after post-mortem.
