In a case of utter callousness and criminal negligence on the part of the school administration, a Class 4 student was locked in a classroom at the Government Primary School in Bilga on Wednesday.
Navpreet Kaur, who was living with her aunt Sarabjit Kaur, was found in an unconscious condition in a classroom on Thursday morning.
She was rushed to the primary health centre, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
However, sources said that two paper slips were found from her pocket, on which she had written that she was being tortured at her aunt's house, and wanted to meet her mother. One slip contained her mother's telephone number.
School principal Surinder Kaur said the girl might have gone into hiding when the school closed and was locked in the Anganwadi storeroom as the rooms are interlinked.
Her aunt Sarabjit Kaur denied the allegations that the child was being tortured and claimed that someone else wrote the slips and put them in Navpreet's pocket.
Station house officer Rupinder Singh said they had received a complaint last night that the girl was missing and registered a report in this regard.
The girl's mother Paramjit Kaur, who lives in Jalandhar, reached Bilga on Thursday morning, he added.
