The Punjab NRI Commission today issued a notice to the petroleum ministry and Natural Gas on a complaint filed by a British Citizen, who holds a PIO (Person of Indian Origin) card, regarding the allocation of cooking gas cylinders. In his complaint, Baldev Singh, who hails from Moga
district, has said PIOs cannot apply for gas cylinders since the process requires applicants to declare "I am an Indian Citizen" status.

He has further claimed that this frustrates his intention to stay in India for a long period, a spokesperson of the Commission said.

The Claimant has sought relief to the extent that in the declaration, OCI/PIO card holders should be incorporated where it is written "I am an Indian Citizen," the spokesperson said.

The NRI Commission has asked the Petroleum Ministry to look into the issue and file a reply on or before October 10 for the benefit of PIO/OCI card holders.

It has also directed that a copy of this order be sent to the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs so that they can take up the matter at their own end.
