Giani Jaswinder Singh has been removed from the post of head granthi of Harmandar Sahib. The decision was taken at a meeting of the core committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) held at Gurdwara Degsar Sahib, Katana, near here on Saturday.

    SGPC chief Avtar
Singh Makkar appointed Giani Mal Singh as the officiating head granthi and Giani Jagtar Singh as additional head granthi.

Giani Jaswinder Singh was removed following inappropriateness during evening prayers recently.
Makkar said Giani Jaswinder Singh would continue as granthi, but for the next six months he would not be allowed to serve during the live telecast of prayers from Harmandar Sahib.

The SGPC chief said the committee had decided to open a nursing college at Anandpur Sahib named after Bhai Ghanaiya Ji and another college in Bathinda named after Guru Gobind Singh.

He said the committee had also chalked out a plan to start an agriculture and horticulture department for maintenance of agricultural lands and gardens of the gurdwaras. Machchiwara would have a jungle that existed during the time of Sikh gurus, where kareer, beri and jand plants would be grown, he added.

Makkar said NRI Deedar Singh Bains had donated 13.8 acres of land to the SGPC.
The SGPC decided to increase the cancer fund in order to help more patients suffering from cancer. The committee also decided to open a school for deaf and dumb children in Ludhiana and give Rs. 10 lakh to All India Pingalwara Society.
