VB shortlists 16 allegations from Cong chargesheet

Two days after chief minister Virbhadra Singh asked the anti-corruption and vigilance bureau (ACVB) to speed up probe into the Congress chargesheet against the previous Bharatiya Janata Party government, the bureau shortlisted 16 allegations for immediate investigation, while probe into others will follow later.


The vigilance bureau on Thursday handed over a list of 16 allegations to the home department and sought approval for early investigation into them.

On Tuesday, officials of the vigilance bureau made a detailed presentation to the chief minister and other government functionaries to apprise them about the present status of allegations.

Of the total 64 allegations in the Congress chargesheet, the vigilance department had shortlisted 54 for the presentation.

Permission granted to a realtor - Bemloe builders - to construct luxury cottages in the forest area in Beer Khana tops the list of allegations shortlisted.

The Congress had alleged the BJP government showed undue favouritism to builders, since permission to them was granted in a single day.

The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, led by son of former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, is also under scanner of the vigilance over allegations of irregularities in allotment of land and construction of high-end hotel - Pavilion - in Dharamsala.

Though the vigilance is already probing the matter, it has now requested permission from the home department as names of some government officials also figure in the compliant.

The VB has sought permission to investigate the land purchases around scenic Annandale ground. There were allegations that land around Annandale was purchased on low rates. The Shimla deputy commissioner has already ordered a probe into the allegations.

Security provided for different editions of the Indian domestic league matches also figures in the list. The matter will be inquired by the superintendent of police, special investigation unit.

The vigilance has proposed to probe 6,818 bighas allotted by previous - government to JP Company other than construction of dams.  Apart from this vigilance has sought approval to inquire into the land purchased by private universities.  Land purchased by former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal's sons Anurag and Arun has also been shortlisted for inquiry. Matter will be inquired by SP, ACVB, north zone.

Land purchased by former health minister Dr Rajiv Bindal also figures in the list.

The VB has demanded permission to inquire into recruitment made in the Solan Municipal Council. The police have already registered a case.

There seems to be more trouble brewing up for former health minister Dr Rajiv Bindal as irregularities and misutilisation of funds granted under the National Rural Health Mission will now be probed.

Besides, allotment of shops by BJP president Satpal Singh Satti, irregularities in purchases of CFL bulbs and allotment of eco-tourism projects will also be inquired by the VB.

Irregularities in purchases of shoes for cops will also be looked into, though the vigilance department has already initiated inquiry into the matter.

Irregularities into high-security numbers plates are one of allegations that will be looked into. Besides this, the vigilance has demanded to probe allegations against an IAS officer and an Indian forest officer.
