Malala Yousufzai, the 14-year-old child activist who was targeted by the Taliban, was flown to the UK on Monday for specialized medical care, doctors confirmed.

Malala and her family members were flown out of Pakistan in an air ambulance that had earlier flown in from the
UAE.

Till now, Malala was getting treatment at an army medical institute in Rawalpindi. Earlier she had been treated at her hometown of Saidu Sharif and then later in Peshawar.

On Sunday, doctors reported that Malala had started to breathe on her own without the help of a ventilator but only for short periods. It is believed that Malala’s condition had not stablised by Sunday.

The arrangements were made after a panel of doctors recommended that Malala be shifted abroad to a UK-based medical centre, which has the capability to provide integrated care to children who have sustained severe injury.
