Delhi fans haven’t had much to cheer about during the ongoing domestic T20 cricket tournament, but now they have a reason. The crucial play-off matches scheduled for May 21 and 22, which were initially to be hosted by Chennai, will now be held at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. It is the objection made by the franchise owners, who wanted the governing council to review the decision of banning Sri Lankan players in Chennai owing to anti-Sinhalese sentiments in the state, that has resulted in the shift of venue.
Young fans in the Capital can’t wait for the action to shift. “The top four teams will now compete in Delhi ... wow! I hope Delhi Daredevils make it to the qualifiers somehow,” says Sonam Awana, 22, a cricket fan. “Our gang’s going for sure. Who knows, if Kolkata Knight Riders qualify, we’ll even get to see Shah Rukh!” says Gunjan, 21.
