The India men's team earned a hard fought 3-2 win over Ireland in the Hockey World League Round II at the National Stadium.

Thursday's win assured the hosts of a smooth passage to Round III. The architect of India's win was Dharamvir Singh, who made the most of a chance inside the striking circle to score the match-winner in the 56th minute.

But on their way to victory, India learnt a few lessons. They had to dig deep to collect full points, running out of ideas to counter the Irish moves during the 70-minute encounter, which saw the visitors bounce back twice.
