Bollywood is ready to pop the bubbly with Sanjay Dutt being released on bail.

No sooner did the Tada court order Dutt’s release from Pune’s Yerawada jail on Thursday, than the smile was back on the film fraternity’s face. Dutt has been inundated with phone calls from Bollywood ever since he stepped out of prison.

Actor earns Rs 25

When Sanjay Dutt walked out of Yerawada central prison in Pune, he was richer by Rs 25 — payment for work done by him.
Dutt spent three weeks behind bars in the Pune jail and wove bamboo chairs under the “cane work” category of manual labour. He was entitled to Rs 12.50 for an eight-hour shift. On final count, he clocked 16 work hours, earning him the sum of Rs 25

A melodious note was within earshot as they spoke about Munnabhai’s return. Amitabh Bachchan’s reaction was crisp but summed up the film fraternity’s sentiment. “We are very relieved and happy for him,” the superstar told HT.  Ameesha Patel, Dutt’s co-star in Tathastu, echoed the view: “I’m very happy and hope he doesn’t have to suffer anymore.”

Producer-director Indra Kumar — who had earlier dropped plans to hold a première of his next release Dhamaal, in which Dutt plays the lead — has now decided to go ahead with it. “Our hero is back; what more could I ask for?” trilled Kumar, barely making any effort to conceal the excitement. “I spoke to him (Dutt) over the phone and he sounded fine. I hope to meet him soon,” he added.

Expectedly, producers of Dutt’s other three lined-up projects have heaved a sigh of relief. Dutt is expected to shoot either for Alibaug, produced and directed by his friend Sanjay Gupta, or could begin work on Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision’s Kidnap and Mr Fraud. While Gupta was unavailable for comment, Shree Ashtavinayak’s spokesperson said, “We’ll wait and watch.”

Director Madhur Bhandarkar touched upon a rather sentimental chord, “With Raksha Bandhan around the corner, it’s an invaluable gift for his sisters Priya and Namrata.”
