Can astrology help students cope with stress? Some schools in Noida think so.
And on Tuesday, Mari-gold Public School put this belief into practice by inviting astrologers to counsel students based on their horoscope.
The workshop was organised in the school premises by
Chennai-based Indian Council of Astrological Sciences (ICAS).
The result: Class IX student Priya Joshi is convinced chanting mantras is the answer to stress.
“Horoscope can tell the strengths and weaknesses of a student. It can help in making the right career decision,” said Pradeep Chaturvedi, chairman of the Noida chapter of ICAS.
For Principal V.K. Shar-da, there is a connection between a student’s chosen stream and the alignment of his or her stars. “With the help of astrology, students can select subjects and subsequently a career they’re meant for,” said Sharda.
Sharda is not alone. More schools may soon latch on to this trend.
But not everyone agrees.
“Won’t it add to a child’s stress if the astrologer suggests a stream he or she doesn’t want to pursue? Schools and parents should not use such irrational means for something as important as a child’s furture” said Abdul Mabood, director of NGO Snehi.
