It’s been two months since they left the IIM-Ahmedabad portals after a six-month MBA course that the Directorate-General of Resettlement had instituted. And retired defence officers of the first batch say the transition from uniform to the corporate world has been smooth.
The money is
Col D Sherawat, who heads the batch’s placement committee, says, “For the last batch of 60 officers, the salary package was between Rs. 12 lakh and Rs. 28 lakh.” DLF, ICICI Prudential, TCS, Infosys, Wipro etc turned up for recruitment.
Post-MBA, retired colonel Chaitanya Prabhu is working with a bank in Mumbai. “IIM-A taught us the corporate skills during the six-month training,” he says. “The army taught us discipline and interpersonal skills,” adds Maj Deepak Negi, a Short Service Commission officer enrolled in the second batch.
Another retired colonel, Kuldeep Rana, is now working with Reliance Retail in Mumbai. “Being in the Army Ordnance Corps, I was dealing with inventory management. Retail is also about inventory control.”
“There is a great demand for defence officers. They are ready to take on challenges,” says Prof PK Chande of IIM-Indore.
