The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday claimed to have achieved a major breakthrough in the Delhi high court blast case with the arrest of two Jammu and Kashmir residents, according to a media report.
The Hindu reported, quoting unnamed sources, that university student Amir
Abbas, a Kishtwar resident, was behind preparing the mail which claimed responsibility for the blast. The report also said that Abbas is alleged to have handed over a portable disk drive to two other local residents three days before the bombing asking them to mail the text after knowing about the attack. A second Kishtwar resident Hilal Amin, has also been held on suspicion of having helped to draft the e-mail.
Home Minister P Chidambaram is expected to make a statement on the arrests later in the day.
According to the report, Abbas was part of a larger network of conspirators involved in the attack. National Investigation Agency detectives have however not been able to locate either the source of the explosives used in the attack, or the men who were thought to have planted the bomb.
