Former Union Home Minister Buta Singh alleged that he was being victimised and framed by the CBI using his son — arrested in a bribery case — as a tool but said he will cooperate with the probe agency if “proper procedures” were followed. Firmly ruling out his resignation, Buta Singh, who
is the Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, said he has “briefed” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue.

“I have briefed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh regarding the facts. He has responded positively and sought more details,” he said.

Accusing the CBI of “framing” him, Singh said: “I will not resign. CBI is not working as an investigating agency and targeting me at the behest of some people...” Adding, “I am being victimised”.

Asked about the seizure of pistols from his son Sarbjit Singh’s house, Buta Singh said: “My son was national shooting champion in the 1980s. These seized weapons are his licenced weapons and he was using them for practising shooting. The licences of these weapons are with him and he would produce them.”

The Enforcement Directorate has now been roped in to help investigations of the bribery case involving Sarobjit Singh and trace an alleged hawala dealer and accused in the case, Dhuksingh Chauhan.
