Reminiscent of scenes from Telugu movies on factionalism, where the victim is often booked by the police rather than the oppressor, the city police has booked a case against writer Taslima Nasreen, who was attacked by three MLAs and activists belonging to Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen(MIM) party
in Hyderabad on Thursday.

"We have registered a case against her under section 153(A) based on a complaint filed by Akabaruddion Owaisi, MLA. We are investigating the case," said LK Sindhe, ACP of Panjagutta.

The MLA in his complaint, lodged at Panjagutta police station, said that she had hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims by her comments.

Meanwhile, Rajasekhar Reddy government has decided to bear the cost of repairs to the Hyderabad Press Club, which was  damaged by the mob rather than asking the MIM party to foot the bill.

Minister for Information Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, who visited the Press Club on Friday to the damages caused to the Club property, has said all repairs needed for the club premises would be done at the government’s cost. He said the government would provide all the amenities needed for the club and directed the officials to take necessary action.

The state BJP has accused the government of going soft on MIM legislators. "Though Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy had promised stern action, the manner of arrests and cases booked against the attackers showed an attempt to water down the case," said BJP state President Bandaru Dattatreya.
