Two bodies believed to be of victims of earlier violence were recovered from Phiringia and Sarangagarh, an official said.
A large number of people who had taken shelter in forests following the violence after the killing of VHP leader Laxmanananda Saraswati on Saturday night have started returning, Kandhamal District Collector Krishan Kumar told PTI over phone.
"As the situation witnessed substantial improvement, nearly 5,000 people were accommodated in relief camps set up at seven places in Kandhamal and free kitchens were opened," he said.
Curfew, clamped in the district on Aug 26, has been relaxed form 8 AM to 6 PM.
Police protection was being provided at relief camps amd magistrates deployed at all sensitive places.
Altogether 85 criminal cases, including 11 in Kandhamal district, relating to murder, arson and rioting were registered across the state.
Curfew remained in force at Phulbani town, Baliguda, Tumudibandha, Barkhama, Raikia, G.Udaygiri, Daringbadi, Tikabali and some other sensitive areas.
Three companies of the Rapid Action Force and two companies of CRPF have reached Orissa so far.
Two helicopters were also being sent by the Centre to assist in force mobilisation and relief operations.
People were pouring into relief camps at G Udaygiri, Raikia, K Nuagaon, Balliguda, Phiringia, Tikabali and Chakapada and more were likely to be opened soon, official sources said.
Peace committees comprising representatives from different communities and officials held meetings at Phulbani town and Daringbadi last night, while such meetings were being held today at G. Udaygiri, Baliguda, Phiringia, Tumudibandh and Tikabali, the sources said.
