In yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops have fired in the Hamirpur, Mankote and Balakote border belts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district. The mortar shells also hit civilian areas of the Mankote and Mendhar belts.
A defence spokesperson said the firing
started about 2pm on Monday and continued till 4.30am. "Pakistani troops fired mortars, Rocket-Propelled Grenades and army retaliated with full force. The firing continued till Monday morning," said defence spokesperson SN Acharya.
Villages in Mankote and Mendhar along the LoC were also hit by Pakistani firing as shells landed there. These areas are being hit by Pakistani firing for the past three days.
Though there hasn't been any migration, people fear the situation might turn out to be like pre-ceasefire days of 2003 and they would be forced to migrate.
"There was no loss of life and property," said the defence spokesperson. There had been 14 ceasefire violations in the past nine days.
There had been 49 infiltration attempts in the area under 16 Corps, which controls 225 km of LoC in the Jammu division, since January and eight infiltrators have been shot during this period.
Major General VP Singh, General Officer Commanding, 25 Infantry Division, had on Sunday evening said the situation was under control and any act of infiltration or ceasefire violation would be met resolutely with power and full force.
He had said about 200-250 infiltrators are waiting across the LoC for the past six months.
