Hours after Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif's address to his nation, Pakistan army fired along the LoC in the Hamirpur area on Tuesday morning. The firing was continuing when last reports came in.

Pakistani troops had fired in this sector on Monday night as well. "Firing started at 8am on Tuesday and intermittent firing continued till late afternoon. On Monday night, Pakisatni troops fired in this sector at 9am and it continued for about an hour. Army fired with mortars and medium machine guns," said defence spokesperson Col RK Palta.

Locals say the duration of firing has lessened a bit in the last two nights.

"Duration can't be quantified. It depends on the response of local field commander," said Col Palta.

According to an agency report, Nawaz Sharif, without mentioning firing along the LoC, in his first address to the nation after assuming office in June, had said,  "While Kashmir is a national issue and the jugular vein of Pakistan… the country is fully prepared to defend the motherland along with its valiant armed forces." On Sunday night, Pakistani troops had fired at Hamirpur, Mankote and Balakote border belts along the LoC in Poonch district. The mortar shells had hit civilian areas of Mankote and Mendhar belts.

Even though, some villages along LoC have been regularly pounded by Pakistani troops this month, no migration has been reported from the area.

There have been 49 infiltration attempts in the area under 16 Corps, which controls 225 km of LoC in Jammu division, since January and eight infiltrators have been shot dead in this period.

Major General VP Singh, General Officer Commanding, 25 Infantry Division, had on Sunday said the situation was under control and any act of infiltration or ceasefire violation would be met resolutely with power and full force.
