J&K govt calls for extra efforts for PM projects

Jammu and Kashmir government has called for redoubling efforts to realise objectives of programmes like Prime Minister Reconstruction Plan and Special Task Force Projects in time-bound manner.
"The situation calls for redoubling of efforts to realise the objectives of these
programmes so as to ensure faster and equitable development of the three regions and their remote and backward areas," Labour Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra said.
Speaking at a review meeting of administrative secretaries, Sadhotra directed them to enhance follow up and monitoring mechanism to ensure completion of works within stipulated time-frame.
These directions came in the light of criticism by the opposition in Jammu and Kashmir that government had failed to implement and complete PM special projects in time bound manner.
The Minister said the coalition government was giving high priority to time-bound completion of schemes so that their benefits reach the people timely.
Prime Minister's economic package of Rs. 24,000 crore to the state, approved in 2004, was subsequently enhanced to Rs. 32,711.31 crore keeping in view urgent developmental requirements.
The Minister was informed that Rs. 6,199.66 crore had been spent on schemes under the state sector, while Rs. 6,601.92 crore was spent on schemes in the central sector. Rs. 9,903.73 crore was spent for schemes under the central sector being executed by the central agencies.
Accordingly, cumulative expenditure incurred under the state sector has been Rs. 4,367 crore till March last year which accounts for 76.08 per cent.'
