India wants a visionary prime
With reference to Barkha Dutt’s article PMs not-in-waiting (Third Eye, March 3), it is too early to predict if Rahul Gandhi or Narendra Modi will be their respective parties’ prime ministerial candidates for the 2014 general elections. Gandhi’s name is doing
the rounds hanks to some Congress loyalists trying to appease the party president whereas Modi’s name is being bandied about by the media, not his party, the BJP. Whether or not either of them becomes India’s next PM, their parties must remember that people don’t want a celebrity leader. They want a visionary, diligent and proactive PM. It’s not a test for life
As a student, I was able to relate to Namita Bhandare’s article It’s just an exam, silly! (Another Day, March 3) on board exams. I quite agree with the author that board exams are not a battle and that schools in India promote education but not learning. Also, it’s wrong to blame only parents for creating a hype around the board exams, as even students believe that these exams can make or break their careers. Narinder Kapur, via email
Striking a discordant note
Amitava Sanyal’s article Mapping musical legacies (Jhankaar Beats, March 3) is highly informative on the ‘non-filmi’ songs by Kishore Kumar. However, unlike what Sanyal states, Kaifi Azmi’s first song was ‘Daar lage duniya se’ from the movie Buzdil and it was picturised on Premnath and Nimmi. I have an HMV record that clearly mentions that the song ‘Rote rote guzar gayi raat’ was written jointly by Shailender and Azmi. Suresh Bhatia, Delhi
