Sachin should know that even great cricketers have a shelf life
With reference to the report Sachin raring to go, as far as 2015 world cup (March 26), it is rather surprising to hear that cricketers themselves are deciding their future. Sachin Tendulkar’s statement that he
will decide when to stop because the decision to start playing was also his is ridiculous. Even though he is a great player, Tendulkar must not forget that he got into the Indian team because the selectors chose him. A player can retire prematurely when he is at the top but cannot claim that he will retire when he feels like it, even when he is not in good form. Instead of prolonging his innings, Tendulkar should retire gracefully.

Poor excuse to hike DA for babus
This refers to the report Central government employees to get 7% DA hike (March 23). I fail to understand the logic behind approving the increase when our Planning Commission is claiming that the number of poor has declined. Am I to understand that retired government servants have become poorer and so need this hike in DA? In any case, I feel that any increase in DA should only be applicable to the lower ranks in the government hierarchy.

It will all come crashing down
With reference to the report An eye on sky scrapers (March 25), it is sad to see that like Mumbai, Delhi is now being forced to grow vertically. Although migration cannot be checked constitutionally, it can be legally restricted. But such measures are not taken, thanks to political considerations. This kind of politics is ruining the capital and will lead to serious consequences in the near future because our infrastructure is bursting at the seams.
