Tired of not having accurate information of the services and amenities within the city? Trusted and popular search engine Google comes to the rescue yet again. Google India has now launched a campaign called Start Searching India to help users get the most out of their searches.

“The objective of the campaign is to help simplify the web for Indian users, showing how they can get instant answers to their most common queries,” Sandeep Menon, director, marketing, Google India, said in Chandigarh, where the feature was launched.

Catering exclusively to Indian Internet users, the tab offers “tips for” the weather, ATMs, restaurants, flights, movies and news, among others.

Simply type in the details of the city and information of places you can have a bite/drink at, theatres where the latest release is playing as well as updates of your flight status will all be available in just a click.

And for Mumbaikars harried by the incessant rain, weather updates could let you know if you “need to carry an umbrella or not”. The tab is updated every three hours.

Google also offers help for research-related work as well as calculations. So you could read up on the GDP of the Greek economy or simplify math equations.

The searches can also be further customised to your |particular tastes or schedules. For example, one can just type in your favourite cuisine and a list of restaurants will be available, under the restaurants head. For more info, users can also type www.g.co/startsearchingindia to go to the search page.

Oh WEATHER!

Last year, the Municipal Corporation Of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) had asked citizens to track weather updates on the Twitter handle @ccrsdmp. But once the monsoon ended, activity on the handle reduced. Now, another handle by the MCGM has come up. @DisasterMgmtMum went live on February 20 and has been posting regular updates on the rainfall in the city, forecasts and tides.

Recent tweets include:
* @DisasterMgmtMum: Forecast received from IMD at 0800 hrs: A FEW SPELLS OF RAIN / SHOWER WOULD OCCUR IN PARTS OF CITY AND SUBURBS
* @DisasterMgmtMum: Rainfall from 18.06.2013 0800 hrs to 19.06.2013 0800 hrs: City:50.60mm, ES: 43.74mm, WS:38.17mm
