This ground has sweet memories attached to it. New Zealand registered their first ever Test win against West Indies in 1955-56 season. The ground has a large new northern stand and attractive floodlights. The climate in this part of the country is considered to be on the humid side. It is the only when where spinners can get some assistance from the patch as rest of them are mostly seamer-friendly.

This ground has hosted many other International events. Eden Park Stadium has also been the home ground of the Rugby Union since 1914.
