Four BSF jawans and a civilian driver were killed and three other jawans injured in an ambush by suspected militants of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura at Shantarampara in West Tripura district on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The police said that a group of heavily armed
militants showered bullets on a BSF vehicle at Shantarampara under Jirania police station which was returning here after polling duty at about 4-30 pm, killing five persons on the spot and injuring three others, one of them seriously.
The police and paramilitary forces rushed to the spot and launched a massive combing operation in the area.
