NDMC will write to the Delhi Jal Board for not cutting down on its quota of water. The issue of possible water shortage in the NDMC zone was raised by NDMC Vice-Chairman Ram Bhaj at the council meeting on Wednesday.

Although the water requirement of the NDMC zone is around 200 mld (million liters per day) the DJB supplies around 125 mld. NDMC officials stated that if their share is cut, areas that will be affected include Kaka Nagar, Bharti Nagar, Lodhi Colony, Golf Links, Karbala Aliganj and Jorbagh affecting over 50,000 people.

At present these areas get water for around three hours twice a day. If the supply is cut, it could come down to once a day. In that scenario, Ram Bhaj said the civic body will ensure supply by diverting the quota of some colonies to minimise inconvenience to the people. The NDMC populace is around 3.5 lakh while the floating population in the area is around 15 lakh.
