Mangat Ram Sharma, a senior Congress leader from Jammu region, was likely to be the party nominee for the Deputy Chief Ministership in the PDP-Congress- led coalition government to be headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Party sources said that Sharma, who has been elected from Jammu
West, is a prominent leader from the state and had served as senior Minister in different governments.
If the Congress leadership decides to give the deputy Chief Ministership to Kashmir valley, Sayeed Pirzada would be the likely nominee for the post. But in the interest of regional balance, the Deputy Chiefministership in all likelihood may go to Jammu region from where it won 15 of the 20 seats.
Pirzada, a former Youth Congress President, was elected for the second time from a constituency from militancy-hit Anantnag district.
The sources said that PCC President Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is also the CLP leader, could be made chairman of the Coordination Committee of coalition partners which would monitor implementation of Common Minimum Programme (CMP).
