Shatrughan Sinha, of the Bharatiya Janata Party, is a Rajya Sabha member from Bihar. Coming from a family comprising reputed doctors, the tinsel personality and the man at the helm of the country's politics has made it amply clear that he is there for more than just the glamour.
The
Bollywood villain-turned-hero has been a tireless campaigner for the BJP. Such was his drawing power that the BJP had placed a small aircraft and a helicopter at his disposal during the last general election -- a facility made available to only two other party leaders, including Advani.
After a long wait he was inducted into the Union Cabinet, first as the Health minister and then as Shipping minister. He had missed the initial Cabinet expansion of the present BJP government on the ground that there cannot be two kyasthas in the Union Cabinet. The other being the Union Foreign Affairs minister Yashwant Sinha. At that time more ire was directed against Advani than against the premier, since Shatrughan was considered the home minister's protege.
The minister was in news for not attending the House regularly and also for not properly replying to the questions asked in the House. He was pulled up many a times by Rajya Sabha chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat for being too casual on the floor of the House.
