Two killed in house collapse, heavy rains in Gujarat

A wall collapse due to incessant rains claimed lives of two children and left three members of the family injured in Junagadh town in Saurashtra, even as heavy rains continued to lash Gujarat for the second day, official sources said here on Tuesday.

Two children aged 11 and 13 were buried under the debris while their parents and sister sustained injuries when their house collapsed in Junagadh late last night, police said today.

Kalyanpur taluka in Jamnagar district of Saurashtra recorded the highest 205 mm rainfall in last 24 hours even as scarcity-relief work in 93 talukas out of 116 were closed after more than 125 mm rains were recorded there.

Also there has been an inflow of 2602.7 million cubic feet fresh water in 184 reservoirs across the state with the total 1,18,677.54 mcft water being stored, reports from Flood Control Room of Narmada Water Resources and Water Supply department said.

High alert has been sounded in the areas in vicinity of Thebi dam in Amreli district, Doswada dam in Surat and Umaria dam in Dahod district after they were filled to brim.

Heavy downpours were also reported in south Gujarat with Valsad receiving 160 mm, Pardi 135 mm and Navasari 124 mm rainfall.

Various parts of Saurashtra and Kutch also received good rainfall with Okha Mandal getting 137 mm, and Bhanvad 101 mm.

Intermittent spells of heavy showers continued to drench Ahmedabad causing waterlogging in several areas.
