Raima Sen is on Cloud 9. Having recently being finalised for a Ram Gopal Varma film, Raima has added another feather to her cap. She is doing debutant director Reema Kagti’s Honeymoon Travels Pvt.
Limited produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
This is a big break for Raima who confirms the news from Mumbai. “I am cast opposite Kay Kay Menon in the film. But please don’t ask me to elaborate on the role as yet. I am not allowed to at this point of time,” she says.
Shooting begins from March in Goa and Raima is anxiously looking forward to it. Honeymoon Travels… has an ensemble cast that includes Shabana Azmi, Shilpa Shetty, Ameesha Patel and Abhay Deol apart from Kay Kay and Raima.
Though Raima wouldn’t elaborate on her role, she says, “I can only say that the role is different, something I have never done before. It’s a very light film.”
Raima is happy to be working with Farhan even if he is not behind the camera. “The best part about Farhan is that he comes out with something innovative even as a producer,” says Raima, who has won accolades with her performances in films like Godmother, Chokher Bali and most recently, Pradeep Sarkar’s Parineeta where she plays a small but substantial role. Raima doesn’t hesitate to acknowledge that her portrayal as Koyel, Lolita’s sister in the screen adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel, has done wonders for her.
“The role may have not been large in terms of length but people have noticed me after Parineeta. Even Zoya Akhtar (Farhan’s sister) admitted that,” says Raima who also has Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Eklavya with Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan, Rituparno Ghosh’s Khela, Anjan Dutt's crossover film, The Bong Connection, and Anirudhha Roychowdhury's Aanuranan coming up.
What is the latest on the RGV produced Shock to be directed by Jijy Philips? A glamorous role, Raima is cast opposite James star Mohit Ahlawat in the film. “I don’t know. The film is getting delayed unnecessarily. But my priorities are clear. I start shooting for Honeymoon…in March and then I shoot for Shock. If the film does not start then I may have date problems. In which case I may have to opt out,” she says firmly.
