but also the 200th successful operation conducted today from funds raised through music concerts organised by child singer Palak Mucchal and her younger musician brother Palash Mucchal.
The 200th patient was Meta, daughter of Nurka and Ruma hailing from a remote hamlet Badi Dhebar in the tribal dominated district of Jhabua. Neta had been diagnosed with a heart ailment 10-years back and had been surviving on medicines brought by her father from neighbouring Gujarat where he used to work seasonally as a labourer. Since the past three-years her valve had been giving her problems and she was prone to occasional fits of fainting.
The couple had come to know of a girl doing charity for children suffering from coronary ailments but their efforts to trace her remained unsuccessful.
Neta had been referred to MY Hospital about ten days back in a serious condition and here they again got to hear of Palak Mucchal. Fortune smiled on the troubled family and they were able to establish contact with Palak who seeing the seriousness of the case got her operated today overriding the 398 who were waitlisted.
Dr Dheeraj Gandhi who performed the surgery said that most such cases stem from arthritis and develop into a serious congenital situation due to the delay in proper treatment.
The actual biopsy time in changing of the mitral valve was about half an hour where the tissue valve was replaced with an imported metallic valve, while the entire procedure took about three and a half hours hours. Dr Mahesh Patel, Dr Ashish Mishra, Dr Subhash Mishra and Dr LL Soni assisted Dr Gandhi in the surgery.
As the curiosity of the public, whetted by the presence of the media increased, all eyes remained transfixed outside the operation theatre. Palak Mucchal eventually emerged out of the operation theatre where she is permitted and remains by the bedside of the patient reciting the ‘Navkar Mantra and Gayatri Path.’
However, the assembled crowd could not recognise her because when Palak came out of the operation theatre she was wearing a surgeons overall and mask mandatory inside the operation theatre.
A loud cheer rang the corridor as well wishers including several patients formerly operated upon with the assistance of Palak garlanded the brother sister duo and the team of doctors.
Palak, later, speaking to the media said that she had never thought that the journey embarked upon in the form of ‘Save Little Hearts Foundation’, six years ago would gain momentum. Out of the 200 operated upon earlier the youngest had been a month old one-kg blue baby and the oldest and the only exception so far had been a 21-year married youth who was the sole breadwinner of his family.
Palash Mucchal a standard-IX student who is blessed with the talent of playing the synthesiser using his head instead of hands and has been nominated in the Guinness and Limca World Book of Records said that his peers and teachers had always been very cooperative. Their studies do not suffer despite their being on tour most of the time on account of the help provided to them in the form of study notes and extra coaching.
For Meta’s parents Nurka and Ruma, Palak is their new God and they expressed gratitude that Meta’s life had been saved only through the efforts of Palak.
Final year students of nursing at Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Science felicitated Palak on the occasion. Charity
trustee Deep Gupta and Karan Mishra said that Palak Mucchal and Palash Mucchal would be felicitated tomorrow at Ravindra Natya Griha where they would be giving their annual charity concert presented once every year on the day that saw the beginning of it all.
‘Genetic testing lab soon’

He also announced his plans to open a genetic testing laboratory for detecting congenital heart ailments and other fatal diseases in a foetus while it still was in the womb.
