THE GORAKHPUR University Affiliated College Teachers’ Association (GUACTA) office-bearers demanded a check on mushrooming self-financed degree colleges.

They also expressed concern over the dominant role of these colleges in conducting examinations.

They said these ‘teaching shops’ had virtually become a small-scale industry.
They alleged the Gorakhpur University authorities had a soft corner for the self-financed degree colleges and had provided them with facilities at the cost of the credibility of the examination system.

Association secretary Shri Mani Tripathi expressed concern over mass copying at examination centres managed by self-financed degree colleges. He alleged that university officials were hand in glove with the management of these colleges.

Accusing the nexus of destroying the examination system, he stressed the need for stern action against mass copying in self-financed colleges.  He claimed the managing committees of these institutions never cooperated with the university’s flying squad.

Association vice-president Bhagwan Singh said an observer should be nominated to the self-financed degree colleges for examinations. The report of the observer should be placed before the vice-chancellor and other officials regarding mass copying.

He alleged students caught using unfair means were released.
